Summer's Over

I cannot believe it's been two months since our last post - guess the girls have been keeping us quite busy :) In August we went to Kentucky for a reunion with Leah's travel group. We drove and stayed overnight in Indy at Mark's sister's house which worked out great because Leah was done with the carseat after about 5 hours. It was so great to see everyone again and we had sooo much fun catching up and rememebering our trip to China together. It was fun seeing how much each of the girls have changed. Leah wore us out with all the chasing we had to do with her but thankfully she slept pretty well in the hotel. The hotel had an outdoor pool that had a zero-depth entrance so you just walked right into it which was perfect for the little girls. Leah absolutely LOVED the water and the pool even had a little fountain which she just kept walking into face first constantly everyone was amazed at her. Another family brought their other three kids with them and they have a daughter that is Mia's age and those two hit it off right away. It was nice that Mia had someone to play with too.

About two weeks later we went to Indianapolis for Mia's travel group reunion. We stayed a night with Mark's sister's family again. It was great being able to spend so much time with them as we don't get to see them but usually once a year. The rest of the time we stayed at a hotel. This time Leah had a hard time going to sleep which made it hard on Mark because he was the only one she wanted at night time (that has since changed). The last night we finally just put her in our bed which we have tried in the past and she played around for about two hours before she finally collapsed. Mia had a great time with her "chinese cousins". The girls just love the pool. We joke that it doesn't matter where we have our reunions as long as there is a pool the girls will be happy. One day the hotel pool was being repaired but they told us about a fitness center that had a pool so all of the families headed over there. They had an indoor and outdoor pool with a two slides. Everyone had a blast even the parents. Mark and I even went down the slides. It was my first time ever going down a waterslide and I believe it won't be my last as it was a lot of fun.

Our last night in the hotel Mark & I looked at each other and said "what were we thinking!" We were so exhausted and laughed at how we never traveled this much with Mia and she was a great traveler. Leah on the other hand not so much! Oh well we survived and had a lot of fun too.

We squeezed in a couple more beach days with the girls. Leah loves the water and playing in the sand too. We have taken her to the Y a couple of times too and she gets really excited when she sees her swimsuit.

Mark's nephew got married at the end of August in Manistee so we again made another trip with the girls. Leah did much better and slept thru the night both nights at my mom's house. It was fun watching Mia take in all that was happening with the wedding and reception it was her first wedding ceremony that she has been too.

Mia started school just before Labor Day. She is in the 2nd grade now and so far still loves school. It is remarkable to see how much she has changed from her 1st grade picture to her 2nd grade picture. She looks so little in her 1st grade pic. Mia has had two spelling tests and has spelled every word correctly and she is so excited to tell me that as soon as I pick her up from school. Art class is still her favorite. She is singing in the choir at church again. She lost both of her front teeth on the same day, well she actually pulled out both of her front teeth by herself. She asked Mark to pull them out but he quickly refused so she took matters into her own hands and did the deed herself! Mia also got her ears pierced and now she can't wait to be able to take them out and put new ones in. Her biggest accomplishment in the past couple of months is that she has stopped biting her fingernails and her fingers. I have cut her nails more in the past couple months than I have in the past few years! I think her playing with her loose teeth might have been what finally broke her bad habit. She is so proud of herself and loves that she is able to get her fingernails painted now.

Leah HATES that Mia goes to school. Everytime she sees Mia's bag she says "school, Mi-Mi, NO! Mia's first day of school was only a half day and when I told her it was time to go get her she ran right to the door and was so excited to be able to go pick her up. Everyday she asks about Mia and I have to tell her that after her nap we will go pick up Mia. Ever since Mia stared school she will not let me out of her sight and insists that I am the only one that can put her to bed. She is talking more and more everyday. She wants to do everything big sister does. She has even started using the big potty too. She will sometimes tell you she has to go and she actually goes! I hope this is a good sign and potty training will be this easy. One can dream! I introduced her to play-doh and she loves it and asks to do it more than once a day. I will have to try painting next but don't think I am quite ready for that yet! She sleeps with about 18 animals in her crib last count I'm not sure where she has room to sleep but she usually sleeps all night and all the animals are still in her bed when I go to get her in the morning. I wish I could capture all of her faces that she makes. She has so many that is why I call her drama queen most days.

Well hopefully this fall we will slow down a little bit but it does not look like that is going to happen. Oh well, I guess this craziness is the new norm! Gotta love it!
